Who Else Sells Liquor and has Gaming Machines in West Auckland?

Competition in the sale of liquor in West Auckland is robust.

The Trusts do not control liquor licences in the area. Liquor licences are granted after application to the relevant local council. Anyone can apply.

The Trusts must also make application to the Waitakere City Council or Auckland City Council for their licences. The Trusts currently hold 45 liquor licences. The Trusts are also subject to all the requirements of the Sale of Liquor Act.

In West Auckland, there are around 280 liquor licences granted to businesses other than those operated by The Trusts. Restaurants, entertainment premises (such as sports clubs), function and events facilities and winemakers hold these licences. Indeed, winemakers’ licences allow them to sell beer, spirits and wine.

The Trusts do not have the only gaming machines in the area either. Clubs such as RSA, sports clubs and entertainment centres have them too. All operators of gaming machines are subject to the Gaming Act, including The Trusts.
